Regional Road 81 Retaining Wall Evaluation and Emergency Slope RepairsLocation: Town of Lincoln, Ontario
Client: Regional Municipality of Niagara ELLIS Engineering Inc. (ELLIS) was retained by the Region for the design of emergency repairs for the Regional Road 81 retaining wall where sections showed signs of failure. ELLIS and Terraprobe Inc. completed a Geotechnical Assessment and Global Stability Analysis of the roadway side slopes and reviewed the as-built condition of the existing retaining walls. The report recommended replacement within the next five years and completing repairs NOW. We prepared tender documents, drawings and pricing. Rankin Construction Inc. completed the repairs and ELLIS provided contract administration and site inspection services during the construction phase of the project. |
Tremont Drive Steel Bin Wall Structural EvaluationLocation: Tremont Drive, St. Catharines, ON
Client: City of St. Catharines The steel bin retaining wall is located along the south side of Tremont Drive, west of Allandale Drive, in the City of St. Catharines. ELLIS Engineering Inc. (ELLIS) was retained by the City of St. Catharines to carry out the structural assessment of the Tremont Drive steel bin retaining wall system. The purpose of the project was to provide an assessment of the existing condition of the retaining wall, to determine the residual life of the existing wall, and to provide cost estimates for short-term repairs and structure replacement. The inspection was carried out by Arih Struger-Kalkman, P. Eng., and Alex Ellis, E.I.T. The structural evaluation report presented detailed effects of deterioration and residual life expectancy. Rehabilitation and replacement recommendations were provided. |
Victoria Avenue Retaining Wall RepairLocation: Hwy 420/Victoria Ave, Niagara Falls, ON
Client: Regional Municipality of Niagara Victoria Avenue crosses over Highway 420 in Niagara Falls. There are retaining walls either side of the structure. In 2013, ELLIS Engineering Inc. (ELLIS) was retained by the Region to complete a design for remedial work to stabilize the retaining wall. Landtek Limited (Landtek) was retained by ELLIS to complete a geotechnical investigation. Following the review of Landtek's report, the project was accelerated as a design-build with Rankin Construction. ELLIS completed design details and drawings for the rehabilitation of approximately 40m of retaining wall at the southwest corner of the Victoria Avenue Overpass. ELLIS also provided Contract Administration services during construction. |
James Street Retaining Wall RehabilitationLocation: James Street, Hamilton, ON
Client: City of Hamilton ELLIS Engineering Inc. was retained by the City of Hamilton to complete repair design details, drawings, and specifications for the rehabilitation of James Street Retaining Wall. The rehabilitation work included a detailed condition survey, the replacement of the existing railing, rehabilitation of the wall (including concrete repairs and finishing) and replacement of stair structure. |
