Client: Regional Municipality of Niagara ELLIS Engineering Inc. was retained by the Regional Municipality of Niagara to provide the detailed design, contract administration, and site inspection services for the replacement of the Effingham Street Culvert, along Regional Road 529 (Effingham Street) over Coyle Creek (a tributary to the Welland River), in the Town of Pelham, Ontario. The existing 20.1m long twin soil-steel multi-plate structure was replaced with a cast-in-place rigid frame concrete structure. |
19th Street Culvert Emergency ReplacementLocation: Nineteenth Street 200m North of Seventh Avenue, Lincoln, ON
Client: Town of Lincoln The Town of Lincoln retained ELLIS Engineering Inc. to design an emergency replacement for the 19th Street culvert after a large sinkhole developed as a result of perforations in the CSP. A noncorrosive 2.1m diameter HDPE Weholite CSP alternative was selected for the culvert replacement as a cost-savings alternative to a concrete structure, while maximizing service life of the new culvert. ELLIS Engineering completed the design details and drawings for the new Weholite pipe structure. Norjohn Contracting Contracting and Paving completed the work. |
Culvert Replacements (Multiple Structure Contract)Location: Lake Street, Old Coach Road and Cindy Drive, St. Catharines, ON
Client: City of St. Catharines ELLIS Engineering Inc. (ELLIS) was retained by the City of St. Catharines to provide the design, contract administration, and site inspection services for the replacement of three culverts. The existing steel multi-plate structures were removed. After geotechnical investigations were completed, new precast reinforced concrete box culverts and cast-in place reinforced concrete wingwalls were designed at each structure. ELLIS approached this project with the goal to minimize capital and construction costs, environmental impact, future maintenance costs, vehicular and pedestrian traffic disruption. We designed the replacement structures to maximize service life and maintain roadway alignment with local stormwater drainage systems. |
Sixteen Creek Culvert RehabilitationLocation: Victoria Avenue\Townline Road over 16 Mile Creek, Town of West Lincoln and the Town of Pelham, ON
Client: Regional Municipality of Niagara ELLIS Engineering Inc. (ELLIS) was retained by the Regional Municipality of Niagara to complete the rehabilitation of Sixteen Creek Culvert, which is a 31.15m long, 6m single clear span culvert that carries Victoria Avenue\Townline Road over Sixteen Mile Creek on the boundary of the Town of West Lincoln and the Town of Pelham. The structure is made up of an original centre portion having a length of 12.17 metres long and extensions to the east and west. The west extension is 7.4 metres long and the east extension is 11.58 metres long. Repairs consisted of removals, constructing an in-situ structural concrete slab over the complete top of the existing culvert, and reinstating backfill, side slopes, asphalt and steel beam guide rails. This rehabilitation was performed with accelerated construction to minimize traffic interruption. ELLIS provided contract administration and site inspection services during construction. |
Lyon's Creek Culvert ReplacementLocation: Lyon's Creek Road, Welland, ON
Client: City of Welland Lyon's Creek Road Culvert was replaced in 2008. The existing culvert was removed and replaced with a precast concrete rigid fram box culvert. The project, commissioned by the City of Welland, was completed in two months. The work was performed by Norjohn Contracting & Paving Ltd. |
