Millennium Trail Pedestrian BridgeLocation: Millennium Trail over the OPG Hydro Canal, Niagara Falls, ON
Client: City of Niagara Falls ELLIS Engineering Inc. was retained by the City of Niagara Falls to complete the preliminary design, detailed design, and contract administration for the proposed bridge over the OPG Hydro Canal in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The new structure is comprised of a prefabricated steel truss bridge. After geotechnical investigations and topographic surveys were completed, ELLIS prepared a 3D model of the preliminary design for review of constructability before proceeding with the detailed design. We prepared contract documents, drawings, and specifications for the new structure installation. ELLIS also carried out a fabrication inspection at the production facility. Rankin Construction Inc. completed the replacement of the bridge in the spring of 2021 and we provided contract administration and site inspection services. |

Gibson Street Pedestrian BridgeLocation: Gibson Street, 0.07km West of Mountain Street, Grimsby
Client: Town of Grimsby ELLIS Engineering Inc. was retained by the Town of Grimsby to complete the detailed design and provide construction administration and site inspection services for the replacement of the Gibson Street Pedestrian Bridge (structure No. BRDG000017). We provided an alternates report considering four main design options including: galvanized steel truss with timber deck, painted steel truss with timber deck, and aluminum truss with Ipe timber deck. ELLIS determined through a net present value analysis that the Aluminum truss with Ipe timber decking was the preferred option. The existing 16m single span steel pony truss structure constructed circa 1986 was replaced by Anthony’s Excavating Central Inc. The new design eliminated steps on the east approach achieving a more accessible design. ELLIS completed topographical survey and geotechnical terms of reference in the preliminary design phase of the project. |
